Who Are We?

Hello,

My name is Shelby New. I will be continuing Candles by Meagan in memory of my sister, Meagan Anne Lyn Griffith. My sister was the founder and creator of Candles by Meagan. She put her heart and soul into creating and growing her business. She loved making her candles and all the passion she put in to her candles was what made them amazing. Meagan never let anything in life stop her. She was a true example of, “where there is a will, there is a way”.

Meagan always wanted to do something special with her life and enjoyed being social. Something more than just a 9-5, “paying the bills” position. She wanted to spend her life doing something special that people would want to be a part of and enjoy. As the interesting events of 2020 unraveled, Meagan was left with time to think about what her next move would be.

A few months before her launch, our aunt and Meagan sat down to an afternoon of food and activities. Meagan sat and thought carefully about what would make the perfect activity for two fairly creative people. When candle making came to her mind, her first thought was “how hard could this be? It can’t be that difficult”… boy was she wrong. Needless to say they had quite the mess on their hands with some under fragranced candles. Although the candles did not turn out very well, there were a ton of laughs shared and memories made.

Fast forward a few months, sitting idle from COVID and quickly running out of things to do to pass her time. Meagan begin to sit and reminisce about that afternoon of candle making. She began thinking about what went wrong and how could she make a good candle. After some minor… MAJOR tinkering, she was able to finally create her ideal candle; strong fragrance, long burn, chemical free. Once the candles had taken over her apartment, she launched Candles By Meagan! May of 2020 was the beginning of Meagan’s amazing adventure. You could find her at various craft shows; she developed a strong online presence, as well as earning 5 stars on Etsy and Facebook! Every Wednesday, you could find her at Ft. Thomas Farmer’s Market enjoying interactions with patrons and her fellow vendor friends. She looked forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, in October of 2023 we lost our sweet Meagan to a sudden medical situation. She always dedicated her life to helping people and making them smile. With Meagan's passion of helping people, she made the decision the day after her 18th birthday to become an organ donor. Her last act was to help multiple people and spread her light even further. Meagan was able to help many people with her organ donation to both recipients and for research.

After Meagan’s passing, my husband and I decided we wanted to continue Candles by Meagan as her legacy and to spread her story along with keeping the candle light shining bright for her.

Thank you all for your love and support during this very difficult time for our family. We greatly appreciate each and every one of you and the joy you brought to Meagan every day!

Love Always,

Shelby and Jared New
